I am always looking for ways to make a celebration to feel a little more intentional. Here are 5 different ideas to bring a little more intention into your Holiday celebration this year.
Personal Reading
Read (or listen) to some fun holiday fiction. It is a great way to experience the holidays. I enjoyed the Christmas Eve Series by Elise Douglas
Countdown
Countdown the days to Christmas. We love a good Advent Calendar around here.
- The Legos Calendars are my kids’ favorites
- We also enjoy a Chocolate countdown, like from our favorite Harbor Sweets
- A get one for yourself like this one from the Body Shop
Daily Reading
Or you can switch it up and do an Advent reading every day
- Watch for the Light is a compilation of many wonderful authors
- Or try Shadow and Light: A Journey into Advent by Tsh Oxenreider
Another fun tradition with books is to collect 12-24 children’s’ Christmas books and read one each day with your child. We have wrapped them up for a fun gift/experience together each night. Our every year favorite is The Polar Express
Weekly Movies
Another fun family tradition can be watching a Holiday movie each week as a family. Of course The Polar Express Movie is an annual Tradition. We also recommend The Christmas Chronicles and Jingle Jangle.
Lighting Candles during December Days can be a lovely tradition, you can add them to your dinner table for the season or you can modify the Christian Tradition of the Advent Wreath to your weekly traditions. We like to bring in Christmas Carols and readings to our Advent Wreath times.
Annual Christmas Day Traditions
On Christmas day itself you can adopt some new traditions.
We have enjoyed The Christmas Pickle – you hide the ornament in your tree the night before Christmas and whoever spots it first gets to open the first present. You can use any ornament you like for this tradition.
Another Christmas Tree tradition we have adopted has been the Christmas Envelope (this also hides in the branches of the tree). Inspired by this story.
